App Limits: how do I set a daily time budget for an app?

Give each app a daily allowance. When it runs out, the app locks until midnight.

An App Limit gives each app you pick its own daily allowance, from 15 minutes to 3 hours. When an app uses up its time, it locks until midnight.

Set up a limit

  1. On Home, swipe to the App Limits card and tap it.

  2. Tap Add new limit.

  3. Under How much time each day?, drag the scale (15 minutes to 3 hours, in 15-minute steps) or tap 30, 45 or 60 mins. Tap Continue.

  4. Under Choose when to apply these limits, pick Everyday, Weekday or Weekend. On those last two cards, tap the day circles first to choose your days: up to 5 weekdays and 2 weekend days.

  5. Select up to 10 apps, then tap Set Limit.

You can have up to 5 limits.

How it works

  • Each app gets the full time on its own. A 30-minute limit on three apps gives each app 30 minutes.

  • Time you've already spent in an app today counts.

  • When an app runs out, its block screen says That's it for today until midnight. App Limits don't have breaks.

  • App Limits cover apps only, not websites or app categories.

  • Your Weekday and Weekend days are shared by all your limits. Changing them for one limit changes them for the rest.

  • If you add a limit with the same time and days as one you already have, the new apps join that limit.

You can edit or delete a limit at any time. See How do I change or delete an App Limit?
